Performers Workshops
"Musicians dedicated
to achieving and maintaining
their best level of performance."
I. Workshop Format
Workshops are designed to provide a forum for musicians who would like to evaluate their readiness of repertoire for upcoming performances, to practice performing from memory, try out new repertoire, or just work to maintain their level of performance.
It is designed to provide performance opportunities to experienced musicians who are preparing for solo performances in recitals, concerts, entertainment, musical productions, etc. It can be valuable to singers, composers, and instrumentalists alike.
Workshops is not an instructional/coaching/study group. There is no evaluation given of performances unless the performer asks the other performers for feedback. Participants define their own artistic goals.
Performance workshops is designed to be a place for performers to share their talents in a supportive/non-competitive atmosphere.
II. The Participants
Open to trained musicians of all levels who sing or play an instrument. Participants must be over 18 years of age. (Younger, outstanding musicians may gain entry by auditioning.)
Musicians preparing for an audition, getting ready for a performance, those wanting to test new repertoire, or other styles of music, and those who just want to maintain, or improve their level of performance.
III. Guidelines for Participation
Workshops will meet once a month. Locations and times are determined with regard to schedule of performance venue.
Each participant will have the opportunity to perform either 1 or 2 selections at each workshop.
Attendance is only for performers. There is no “audience” of non-participants.
(Prospective participants can get a guest pass to see if they want to join.)
Participants must supply their own music and instrument on which to perform.
A piano will be available for accompanying and performing.
Hopefully participants will consider being able to perform with other musicians in the workshop in duets/trios/ small ensembles if asked. For those creative musicians, this workshop will also provide opportunities to enjoy getting “outside the box” to perform other styles, literature, arrangements/ accompaniments with fellow participants.
IV. The End Result
In earlier times, grand homes were not just “dead spaces”, but were filled with music from concerts and recitals, as well as talks and lectures. There are many grand historic homes in Southern California, which would make excellent venues to share the talents of our outstanding musicians in the Performers Workshops.
Hopefully it will become a goal of all participants to perform in our concert series, “Performances in Historic Places”, where they can get professional exposure, valuable experience, and at times financial remuneration.
Come to have fun, enjoy the music
and the performers who make it happen.
Stop practicing…you’re on your way to quitting.
Stop performing…you’re no longer a performer.
Stop making music…you’re no longer a musician.

As my old music teacher used to tell me:
“Every day musicians are either getting better or worse.
You don’t take time off and still perform at the same level.”
